SYO on tour in Austria

| In July 2008, Southampton Youth Orchestra went to Austria, visiting both the beautiful Wachau Valley area, and the capital city of Vienna over 8 days. These are a few of the pictures from the trip, from the cameras of Amy Pritchard, Ann Smith and Pete Gosney.
This year's tour was organised through locally-based specialists Concerts-Austria. The tour T-shirts carried (give or take a few late changes) the names of all staff and players: you can put faces to names here.
Veteran transport logistics co-ordinators Pete Gosney and Jan Szram left Taunton's College a few days in advance with the larger instruments, returning with some rather well-used maps. Everyone else flew from Heathrow - no T5 hiccups thankfully - and then had the use of two coaches for the two-centre tour. Our thanks again to our drivers, to Ann Smith for initiating Vienna as a destination when previous plans were collapsing, to all staff and organisers, and especially to SYO's conductor Jane Higgins. |

As usual, there was a good mix of playing, sightseeing and eating and drinking.... For more evidence, click on one of the links at the foot of the page. |

"Vienna was brilliant - a really beautiful and decorative city. The rehearsals and concerts went really well. As always with tours, I got to know so many new people! I also personally enjoyed visiting galleries and costume collections. The Viennese Art Nouveau painter Klimt was already one of my favourites ... and I can't believe the ladies had to wear 12 underskirts beneath one of those dresses! I'd like to thank everyone involved for making this tour so menorable." - Amy |
