The Southampton Youth Orchestras consist of a pyramid of orchestras and string ensembles, starting with a broad base of those gaining their first experience of orchestral playing, all the way up to the Southampton Youth Orchestra (SYO) itself, one of the UK’s foremost youth orchestras.
Players can progress through the ensembles, or enter directly at any level. For Southampton Music Service students, pupils will usually join ensembles on their teacher’s recommendation.
A ‘Pyramid’ Concert show casing the progression through the orchestras is usually held at the Central Hall, Southampton in Jan/Feb. Visit the Concerts and Events page for more details.
To join a group please visit the Southampton Music Hub contact page or telephone 023 8083 3648 or e-mail music@southampton.gov.uk.
